Child Development Assistant AFTERSCHOOL 4 hours
DEFINITION
Under supervision, care for and assist in the development and instruction of children in the Bearcat
Discovery Center/Bearcat Adventures Program.
SUPERVISION
Bearcat Teacher and/or Associate Teacher
WORK YEAR
237 days
Temporary position during non-school days
QUALIFICATIONS
● California Child Development Assistant Permit
● Has completed pediatric CPR and First aid training through an accredited or approved
program and holds a current pediatric CPR and first aid certificate.
● Fingerprint clearance by both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California
Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions
have been met.
● Able to lift 50 pounds, move quickly, bend, squat, kneel, and sit on floor.
● Awareness of the operating procedures and policies of the Bearcat Discovery Center
● with the expectation to perform duties with minimal direction or immediate supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Assists instructional personnel with directing students into safe learning and play activities
and functions, and assists in the shaping of appropriate social behaviors.
● Assists in the management of student behavior through the use of positive reinforcement
strategies and techniques;
● Prepare and assist in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials and learning aids
for use with individual or small groups of students.
● Assists in the maintenance of a variety of records and files, including confidential student
records and information.
● Assists children with toileting and personal hygiene.
● May assist children with feeding.
● Assists in maintaining an orderly, attractive and positive learning environment.
● Participates in parent conferences, as requested.
● Ability to perform other tasks as assigned.
